English as a Second Language (ESL)

 

ESL classes are English classes for non-native speakers. Learn English with a focus on skills you need in daily life and for getting and keeping a job. Courses combine vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and pronunciation.

ESL/ Adult Basic Education (ABE) Bridge Students who are at the intermediate-high level and above enroll in classes which prepare them to enter our high school diploma program by practicing academic English skills as well as mathematics.

NEW! This fall we will offer three new SATURDAY CLASSES for English language learners:

  • Computer Basics for ESL Students Learn to use the Internet, email, and the basics of Microsoft Word. Students will use our new laptops.
  • ESL on Computers Learn English using Rosetta Stone and Live Action English on our new laptops.
  • Distance Learning Meet with your teacher for 15 minutes on Saturday and take home a DVD and homework to practice English at home.

ESL Special Interest Classes Check our brochure for afternoon and Friday classes, including Beginning Pronunciation, Intermediate Listening and Speaking, and Intermediate Grammar Review. Class fees are from $35 to $50.

ESL Family Literacy Classes Students study English and learn about how they can help their children with school. Classes are at Monroe, McKinley and Washington Elementary Schools, and across the street from Jefferson Elementary School.
